Carolyn Lewis is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in Washington, D.C. and Massachusetts. She received her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Salem State University in Salem, Massachusetts. Since working in the social work field for over ten years her areas of expertise are in serving survivors of gender-based violence, people who have experienced trauma, and LGBTQIA+ individuals. Additionally, she has worked with individuals across the lifespan in both outpatient community health settings and through non-profit case management and advocacy.
Carolyn possesses expertise in providing mental health counseling to women and transgender women experiencing depression, anxiety, gender dysphoria, adjustment challenges, various forms of trauma involving abuse and neglect, body image concerns, domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking. Carolyn’s approach to therapy is to employ a strength’s-based lens using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing to empower every client that she serves. Additionally, using an anti-racist and anti-oppression lens in her practice with clients is vital to navigating the intersectional nature of all human experiences, including maternal mental health. Carolyn is an aspiring single mom by choice (SMBC) and hopes to have her own children one day.
Carolyn modifies her therapeutic approach to best suit the individualized needs of her clients and strives to create an authentic and non-judgmental therapeutic space where clients can explore life’s challenges. In doing so, she hopes to guide clients down the path to living a more balanced and fully authentic life.
